The football team at the University of Arizona had to know some changes were in store after its head coach bolted for Washington over the weekend, but it’s hard to imagine it was prepared for the mass exodus that unfolded in a laughably short period of time on Wednesday.
When Nick Saban decided to retire following 17 legendary seasons at Alabama, his departure sparked a domino effect across the college football world. The Crimson Tide wasted no time poaching Kalen DeBoer from Washington, which meant the program had a void to fill less than a week after they’d faced off against Michigan in the national championship.
The Huskies subsequently decided to turn to Jedd Fisch, who got off to an absolutely brutal start after being hired by the Arizona Wildcats but led the team to a 10-3 record this season just two years after going 1-11 in his inaugural campaign.
On Tuesday, Arizona announced former San Jose State coach Brett Brennan will be taking the reins in Tucson. However, he’s got his work cut out for him based on the roster changes he’ll be dealing with heading into his first season with the program.
On Wednesday, Pete Nakos of On3 reported nine members of the Wildcats decided to enter the transfer portal in the wake of Brennan’s arrival, a development that was fairly noteworthy on its own but especially head-turning when you consider every single one of the following guys decided to pull the trigger in the span of 30 minutes:
- RB Jonah Coleman
- RB Adam Mohammed
- QB Demond Williams
- TE Keyan Burnett
- TE Dorian Thomas
- WR Audric Harris
- DB Ephesians Prysock
- DB Jordan Shaw
- OL Raymond Pulido
Coleman is easily the most notable name on that list, as he racked up 871 rushing yards and scored five touchdowns last season. Prysock was also a solid contributor with 64 total tackles and an interception, while Pulido took more than 300 snaps as a freshman.
